Listening to poets reciting their ghazal and nazms at mushairas and mehfils
is an amazing experience. If you have been to one, you know what I mean.
Though one enjoys reading and reciting works of one's favourite writers,
to be at a mushaira or kavi sammelan has its onw flavour and joy.
I am sharing a YouTube video of a mushaira.
Famous poet Khumar Barabanki recites his most popular ghazal
'Ek Pal Mein Ek Sadi Ka Maza Hum Se Puchhiye'.

Ek pal mein ek sadi ka maza hum se puchhiye
Do din ki zindagi ka maza hum se puchhiye

Bhule hain unhein rafta-rafta mudatton mein hum
Qishton mein khudkushi ka maza hum se puchhiye

Aagaaz-e-aashiqui ka maza aap jaaniya

Khumar Barabanki (1919-1999) was a Urdu poet who hailed from Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. His real name was Mohd Haider Khan. He chose 'Khumar' for his takhallus (pen name). He had penned a few songs for Hindi films too. I never heard him in any mushiara; My brother's senior at college was a big fan of Khumar and I had first heard the poet's name from him. Khumar was alive then. I came acorss this video and thought of sharing it here. It was a pleasure to see/hear the poet recite his most famous ghazal. His other famous ghazals include 'Husn Jab Meharbaan Ho To Kya Kijiye' and Aisa Nahi Ke Unse Muhabbat Nahi Rahi'. Enjoy the poetry! Cheers!! ]
