She hopes: “when people see my un-ironed, faded cotton salwars,
they would praise me for my simplicity. (Till now it hasn't happened!)”

She is
Bharatborn
She seems to be an avid reader. “Even when relatives warned her that with her
reading enthusiasm, she would get her reading glasses at age 15”
she went on and on… and got the glasses “ONLY at forty”.
She calls it her "triumph”.

From philosophy to history and literature, from love to hatred, she has
expressed her views on a wide range of topics, themes and issues.
Over to Bharatborn:
Romance to me is like America. I know it exists; but haven’t been there.
(I am talking of romance with its modern, limited meaning.)
MU asked me to name my most favourite romantic song in Hindi or English.
But the language I learnt first is Kannada and
I learnt to appreciate Kannada songs first.
If I stick to film music, the two songs which come to mind are
‘Aakaashave Beelali Mele’ and ‘Cheluvaada Muddaada, Nimmanthe’.
The first one is a promise by the man that even if the sky falls on them,
or the earth breaks, he is hers.

The second one is a conversation between a husband and wife.
Wife is pregnant and they are discussing the sex of the baby.
Husband wants a daughter just as beautiful and good as his wife
and the wife wants a son as magnificent as her husband.
Both, in the end come to a compromise and
decide to have twins, one of each sex!

I delighted in these songs even before I understood the meaning of romance.
I’m not much exposed to English music.
But I love some of Lobo songs, especially 'Love Me For What I Am'.
O Mere Dil Ke Chain is one of my most favourite romantic songs in Hindi.
But I admit I fell for it before I understood the lyrics.
I fell for the tune and Kishore’s voice.
But I fell in love with ‘Abhi Na Jaao Chodkar’and
‘Achhaji Mein Haari' after I understood the lyrics.
There is another song which I haven’t heard much but
is always at the back of my mind. I don’t know the singers or the movie.
“Sochthi hoon ye kya kiya maine…kyo ye sar dard leliya maine…”
Does anyone know this song?
My favourite romantic movies in Hindi --
Yes Boss, Sparsh and Teesri Kasam
(Raj Kapoor & Waheeda -- this was the only movie in which I could tolerate Raj)
In English, the choice is simple -- You’ve Got Mail.
I don’t see English movies much.
Romance and flowers are very similar -- beautiful and short-lived.
And spread joy around.
Here’s wishing all of you fresh flowers everyday, all through the year.

[P.S To Bharatborn: Thanks for being my guest and for sharing your favourite songs and movies. 'O Mere Dil Ke Chain' is my favourite too. To All: Enjoy the music! ]

BB and MU
O mere dil ke chain is so very sensitive and a beautiful song. Dunno the song Sochati Hoon main...the other 2 are also lovely songs...really, most old songs were really more profound and meaningful and stirred the soul! BB- I know 1 sentence of Kannada-'Ein madati?'
